The Natural Reserve of the High Plateaus of the Vercors is the widest natural reserve of France (17 000 hectares) and is fully included in the natural park's terrotory. Protection of the environment is much more strict here. That's why dogs aren't allowed in the reserve, even kept at lead. The natural reserve is remarkable for its fora (orchids, tulips, edelweiss, mugho pines), its fauna (griffon and hooded vulture, all the hoofed animals, eurasian black grouse), its geology (grykes, caves) and its human and cultural richnesses (roman quarries, transhumance, country kilns).
